Twisting the Dirac cones of the SU(4) spin-orbital liquid on the honeycomb lattice

By combining the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method with Gutzwiller projected wave functions, we study SU(4) symmetric spin-orbital model on honeycomb lattice. We find that ground states can be well described by a $\pi$-flux state Dirac-type gapless excitations at one quarter filling. Although these Dirac points are gapped emergent gauge fluxes finite cylinders, they govern critical behavior in thermodynamic limit. inserting $\theta=\pi$ spin flux to twist boundary condition, shift sector state, which provides compelling evidence for presence of liquid.
